AUDI RS4 review in detail:

The standard Audi A4 provides the safety and security of German engineering in a package that looks a lot more interesting than the slightly subdued models in the previous generation. It is a highly competent car at a moderate price for the class in which it sits.

For those who like to drive hard and fast with a big load on board the high-performance RS4 range has recently been expanded to include an Avant (station wagon) variant.

The performance-oriented A4 S line range also expands to include a new S line Special Edition model powered by the new 170PS 2.0-litre TDI engine, while the A4 line-up as a whole benefits from new cost-effective combined option packages.

Forget big power sports machines of the past that were a pain to drive in traffic, as clever engineering means these RS cars are docile in normal use.

On the steering wheel of the RS4 there's a button marked 'S' (for sports) and this not only firms up its variable suspension damping, but also lets the engine produce more power.

The BOSE sound system incorporates high performance loudspeakers with acoustics specially tuned to the architecture of the A4 Saloon and Avant, giving exceptional bass and treble response and outstanding richness and clarity of sound.

The Audi A4 will reach Australia initially in October 20007 at the Sydney Motor Show, but it won't go on sale until April 2008. Audi says, with a new platform, it will be the best-ever handling A4 ever, and it will be the sportiest saloon in its category. Price should remain very similar to current levels. The RS4 should follow some months later, and we look forward to driving it when it arrives!
