New for 2007 and featuring a thrilling all-new 435 hp 5.2 liter FSIŽ Direct Injection V10, the Audi S6 is all beauty, comfort, and soul-stirring performance. Delivering 398 lb-ft of torque, the S6 envelops you in luxury as you rocket from zero to 100km/h in 5.1 seconds.
The sound from this big engine is quite magnificant and the response is close to instantaneous.
Any car designed to cruise at 250km/h has to be crammed full of highly competent dynamic features, making this one of the safest cars on the road for overtaking. As a contrast though, the car is docile in everyday driving and provides decent comfort despite its sports-oriented suspension.
There are 6 and 8 cylinder engines complementing the new V10, so the latest Audi A6 range is comprehensive. There's also a 3.0-litre, V6 turbo-diesel with a huge torque output from low revs that provides excellent economy.
The A6 feels strong and handles superbly, especially in quattro format, putting the ride and handling of the A6 up with the class leaders. However, the front-drive models can feel nose-heavy at times.
It simply takes the occasional pothole in well-used bitumen surfaces in its stride and dirt roads offered no challenges to the suspension.
The next Audi S6 update is expected around March 2008. It is expected that the RS6 is planning to put a turbocharged V10 for its next-generation RS6 sedan and wagon models. The powerplant will come from the Lamborghini Gallardo.
