Ford Performance Vehicles introduced a few new models towards the end of 2006.
Tagged Force 6 and Force 8, the new high-performance machines are based on regular six and eight cylinder FPV models but have a more subtle appearance, which appeals to the driver who wants a hot car but doesn't want to scream out to onlookers about what they are doing.
Not that it's subtle to the point of being anonymous. Refinement is part of the cabin package, with interiors using dark woodgrain inserts and chromed highlights. Leather trim can be specified in either red or charcoal. The Prestige sound system uses six speakers and a six-disc CD changer.
The Force 6 features the 4.0-litre intercooled, turbocharged FPV engine, with 550Nm. The twin-cam Boss V8 produces 520Nm.
Both Force models use the highly regarded ZF-built, six-speed automatic transmission with settings specifically set up for the FPV range.
With useful manual over-rides it enables the keen driver to get the best from the performance engines.
The FPV range continues to impress and these cars make superb grand tourers that let you cover big distances with absolute ease, acting in a refined and sophisticated way that even makes light work of heavy-duty distances.
The limits of cars like this are so high these days that track driving is recommended to really explore them to their best.
The next FPV GT update is expected around June 2008. Details released in Wheels Magazine August 2007 issue state that there are to be no new models added to the current FPV lineup, however there are to be marked increases in power. The F6 4.0L I6T is said to receive a power increasment to 300 kW & 575 nm and the GT 5.4L V8 to 320 kW & 550 nm. The exterior is featuring blackouts below the headlights and a larger front air dam.
