What Ford has done with the BF MkII is "freshen" the Falcon range where it needs it, leave it alone where it doesn't and sharpen pricing and fuel economy to keep its customers satisfied.
It hasn't helped sales volumes, however. The biggest problem is that the Falcon is getting on in years and the newer offerings from its main competitors look and feel significantly fresher. The next Falcon model isn't expected until 2008.
This current Falcon series is being offered in special editions that offer excellent value for money.
Falcon continues to be a large, comfortable sedan that's extremely suited to Australian road conditions, be that in the bush or the suburbs.
Performance from the straight-six engine is good, particularly if it's teamed with the six-speed automatic transmission.
Ride comfort is good and for a car of this size, road grip and steering feel is very good also.
There is room for five adults, though it's better if the one in the centre-rear position is of average to small size.
Boot space is good in the sedan, though the shallow configuration doesn't do it any favours.
The wagon's load area is huge.
The next Ford FALCON update is expected around March 2008. By March 2008, Ford will be running about 18 months behind the Commodore VE. Apart from new styling, it is hoped (and expected) that there will be some more economical engines, and a 6 speed automatic transmission.
