HOLDEN COMMODORE review in detail:

The VE Commodore continues to be the number-one selling car in Australia, though these days its lead isn't the commanding one it was in years past. The Toyota Corolla has beaten it on a few occasions. A combination of competition from mid-sized 4WDs and high fuel prices is hurting Commodore in the sales race.

The seats are comfortable and attention has been given to providing decent support for rear seat passengers, as well as those in the front, something that's not all that common.

The handling is generally excellent due to the rigid body shell, ride comfort is good and the suspension design is excellent.

The engines are upgraded versions of the superseded VZ units even though the VE's body is new. The engine designers have managed to get more power and, in many models, use less fuel.

An interesting addition to the Commodore range is what GM-H calls the V Series. These are topline models in both the luxury and sports ranges and come with tags Calais V and SS V.

Holden is exporting a lot of Commodores, so build quality is generally high with a smooth paint finish and tight panel margins. However, there have been blemishes in some early models, with electrical troubles being the main problem.
