JAGUAR S-TYPE review in detail:

The styling of the Jaguar mid-size model is very much old-school Jaguar. Many enthusiasts like it that way, though there are those who criticise it, saying the British maker should look to the future, not the past.

The interior of the S-Type has the traditional Jaguar-style gentleman's club ambience that the British do so well. It is a bit on the tight side, which has been a bit of a Jaguar trademark for generations.

It comes as no surprise that Jaguar was one of the last car companies to join the push to diesel engines, but one is now an option in the S-Type. The engine is encapsulated in what is virtually a sound-proofed box and is an ultra-modern, twin-turbo, V6 design with real sporting performance.

All Jaguars come with a lovely refined feeling that makes for hassle-free travel.

Handling is good without being outstanding, though the high-performance S-Type R variant is certainly an exception.

The R comes close to beating the high-powered German machines from Mercedes AMG and BMW Motorsport at their own game, though is considerably more expensive than others in the range.

S-Type is holding its age well, but is likely to be replaced in about a year's time.

Look at a concept model called the Jaguar C-XF to get a glimpse into the future.
