LEXUS SC430 review in detail:

The SC430 is a big Japanese convertible with an interesting combination of high-tech mechanical and electronic features and retro styling. Drivers will appreciate this one provided they keep in mind that the Lexus SC430 is a luxury open-top cruiser, not a full-on sports machine.

Unfortunately, there are a few drawbacks. For one, there is virtually no cargo space. The boot is small, and with the top down that space shrinks even further. The rear seats are essentially just for show; even small children will be frustrated with the lack of legroom.

The SC430 is on the soft side when it comes to cornering but is quick in a straight line thanks to an excellent twin-cam V8 engine.

With the push of a button, the retractable hardtop transforms the SC 430 from a coupe to a convertible in approximately 21 seconds. Inside, the interior is elegant and luxurious, as one would expect.

The Lexus roadster features an excellent audio system from Mark Levison. This stereo not only provides quality sound, it even knows whether the hardtop is open or closed and adjusts its DSP settings accordingly. There are power-operated timber panels to conceal the controls, not only for the audio system, but also for the DVD-based satellite navigation screen.

Luxury features are many and varied: dual-zone climate control teams with 10-way power seats trimmed in your choice of several colours of Bader leather.

The Lexus SC 430 comes equipped with antilock brakes with brake assist. Traction control, stability control, front side airbags, knee-protecting airbags and a tire-pressure monitoring system are also included.

The quality of finish on the Lexus SC430 is close to perfection.
