MASERATI QUATTROPORTE review in detail:

Maserati Quattroporte has the ability to bring a smile to the face of even the most jaded of drivers, being a large grand tourer with a huge amount of road presence.

Power comes from 4.2 litres of high-performance Italian twin-cam V8.

Power peaks at a hefty 400 horsepower and the engine not only revs very happily, but also sounds just right while doing so.

The biggest change for 2007 is that a conventional six-speed automatic transmission is finally on offer.

This has meant shifting the auto so that it's just behind the engine, not at the rear axle as before.

However, Maserati has worked hard to maintain good weight distribution.

The chassis works well both mechanically and through its electronic aids, so road grip is immense.

The sequential manual gearbox is still offered.

It can be harsh in its upchanges and is cranky when asked to creep at very low speeds, making it a bit annoying when parking.

The four leather seats support well and are virtually all individual units.

Should you have special preferences for interior or exterior features in the way of trim, colour or material, Maserati is only too happy to oblige.

Ride comfort is surprisingly good considering the sporting nature of the suspension.
