MERCEDES-BENZ R320 CDI review in detail:

This is a large Mercedes wagon that is not just a mere mover of people, but more a spacious grand tourer. It's a big vehicle and is offered in either standard or long-wheelbase variants, the latter aimed at the business-express market and not simply as a carrier of kids.

There is good stretch-out space for six occupants. The variable sliding centre-row seat lets you juggle who gets what in the way of legroom. The four rear seats can be folded flat to make for a positively huge load-carrying area.

Power comes from petrol engines of V6 or V8 configuration, there's also a high-torque turbo- diesel unit.

The latter has the sort of grunt many will enjoy sitting behind and yet uses considerably less fuel than the big V8 petrol. Many of the very latest in passive and active features are part of this Mercedes.

The R-Class will appeal to those who want the practicality of a 4WD but who don't intend to tackle any off-road running. However, it doesn't seem to be selling as well as the ML-Class vehicles with which it shares some components.
