PORSCHE 911 review in detail:

The 911 is now comfortably into its fifth decade, albeit with a multitude of changes over the years, and is one of the all-time classic sports cars.

Tagged 997 in Porsche lingo, the latest model is simply superb in the way it feels, looks and responds.

The sound of the tremendous Porsche flat-six engine is something else again as it sits just behind your left ear and bellows every time you hit the accelerator.

Performance is excellent, particularly in a straight line, because the rearward weight distribution puts plenty of weight onto the back tyres.

Porsche invented the ability to have manual control over an automatic transmission with the system it calls Tiptronic, but the gearshifts in the manuals are slick and easy and this is still the transmission of choice for many drivers.

Some of the awkward handling of the older 911 models is still there, mostly due to the fact that there's too much mass concentrated at the rear of the car.

But you really do have to be pretty silly to invoke it as the handling limits are very high.

PSM, or Porsche Stability Management, helps drivers get out of difficult situations in the steering and handling departments, yet does so without overly interfering with the car.
