VOLKSWAGEN POLO review in detail:

These days, the VW Polo is as big as older-model Golfs and there's a large amount of space inside the 3.9-metre-long body. Rear passengers get a better deal in five-door models than in the three-doors. It's easier to get in-and-out of and there's slightly more legroom. However, the rear is only suitable for two adult passengers. Aside from that, the cabin is airy and light and there's good head and legroom for the front passenger.

The boot isn't all that good, though, which isn't a surprise in a car in this class.

The Volkswagen Polo has a nice feel on the road, with reasonably positive steering, plenty of road grip and understeer that only comes into the equation when you are going pretty hard.

The Polo range is wide and varied and includes a high-performance GTI hotshot, as well as an
economical turbo-diesel.

The well-priced GTI comes in a sporty three-door body, with a honeycomb grille, subtle GTi branding and racy red trim inside. Sadly it doesn't quite live up to its racy name on the road, where it doesn't as feel quick or sharp as rival hot hatches like the Renault Clio 197 or MINI Cooper. But it's better to drive once it gets going, where it overtakes with ease and has plenty of turbo-boosted power in reserve.

The VW Polo TDI turbo-diesel is the lowest-cost diesel car on the current Australian market. Just remember that you pay a fair bit more up front to buy the car, and diesel fuel is usually more expensive than petrol.
