VOLVO C70 review in detail:

Volvo's second-generation C70 convertible is a huge improvement over the first. Volvo has joined many other makes in using a folding hardtop instead of a soft-top to provide better driving refinement and improved security.

Together with soft-top expert Pininfarina, Volvo's engineers have come up with an impressive three-piece roof instead of the two-piece unit used by most competitors.
This allows for a longer roof without the need for a windscreen that slopes back so far in the car that it takes away some of the open-air feeling.

Boot space is limited due to the stacking of the roof in three layers when it is folded away. With the roof up, there's a huge 400 litres of volume. This reduces to only 200 litres with the roof down.

Cabin room is quite good, and the C70 convertible seats four adults comfortably. Ingeniously, the storage areas next to each of the seats, and also the glovebox, are all locked when the remote-control button is pressed.

On the road the new Volvo is most impressive. To start with, the scuttle shake that spoiled the original C70 convertible has disappeared. The result is a front-drive car that turns in nicely and only has understeer when pushed quite hard.

Engine response in both power plants is good, but the added weight of the folding top takes the edge off the engine's punch.
