Set up in 1898 with Louis Renault's Voiturette, the Renault company quickly became the leading industrial manufacturer in France.

Through its talent for mechanical, design and stylistic innovation, the brand has made a major contribution to the development of the automobile worldwide.

Renault has been a private company since 1996.

From the Voiturette in 1898 with "direct drive" (a Renault invention which revolutionised automobile mechanics and was later adopted by all manufacturers) to the Scénic RX4, the first four-wheel-drive compact monospace, Renault has been a major player in automobile innovation.

Throughout the 20th century, the company accurately predicted motorists' changing tastes and behaviour patterns.

The 21st century will offer Renault even greater opportunities to assert its audacity and difference.
