BMW 335I review in detail:

Since the earliest days of the company, BMW Coupes have been elegant expressions of individual style and passion for driving.

Still one of the stars in the BMW camp in Australia, the 3 Series is offered in a huge variety of options - everything from a (relatively) affordable 320i sedan to upmarket hotrods, the latter in the form of the superb 335i sedan with a twin-turbo petrol engine that joined the range late in 2006. The 335i engine is a strong 3.0 litre straight-six, bi-turbo powerhouse producing a stunning 225 kW. The torque kicks in almost instantly as the twin small turbos spool up faster than would a single, heavier one. The engine is a real delight to sit behind, being silky smooth at all times and more than happy to climb and drop in revs throughout the range.

The straight-six engine is set well back, which takes away a little foot width from the front passengers. Apart from that though the front seats have plenty of adjustments, good shape and are very comfortable. Although more spacious than before, the 3 Series' rear seat is still slightly cramped for legroom if large adults are travelling together.

This is a drawback of the use of rear-wheel drive as there's a central driveshaft as well as a differential under the back of the car.

The big advantage of RWD is the excellent balance and the 3 Series is delightful to drive with near-neutral road behaviour and a lovely feeling through the steering wheel.

Of increasing popularity, the Touring wagon has a good degree of practicality in the load area that can now be reached through the usual top-hinged tailgate as well as an opening rear glass.

Safety in the wagon is improved with tie down points and a two-position cover.

The 3 Series convertible, the latest addition to the range, is covered in the convertibles and sports section.
