HYUNDAI GETZ review in detail:

Getz is selling well due to a combination of value for money and good interior space, and has taken over the position once held by Hyundai Excel.

Styling certainly does it no harm, as the looks are neat and tidy with a fair big of character.

Hyundai Australia has given the Getz an upmarket air by specifying a leather-trimmed steering wheel with audio controls, and a leather gear lever.

Engines come in two sizes: 1.4 litres in the case of the entry-level models, and 1.6 litres in the topline variants.

Both use a modern twin-cam design that makes for low emissions and good economy.

Obviously it is no European car, but the Hyundai Getz has a reasonably solid feel on the road and will suit the average owner down to the ground.

Handling is a little soft for the keen driver but can be improved by specifying a good set of tyres, either when the car is new or at the time the original set wears out.

'Active' headrests on the front seats, which move forward during a rear-end crash to reduce whiplash, are standard on all Getz models.

The 1.6-litre version of the Getz now has ABS brakes with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD).
