JAGUAR XJ6 review in detail:

A Jaguar with a diesel engine would have seemed absurd not so many years ago. But so great is the technology in the latest common-rail turbo-diesels that Jaguar has had no hesitation in using one. A twin-turbo 2.7-litre unit with a V6 arrangement, it has huge amounts of torque and doesn't suffer too much from turbo lag.

As this is a low-slung sports saloon, there's not a great amount of interior space. Four adults can be carried with decent head and legroom, five can be transported at a real pinch if need be.

Getting in and out can be a challenge as it's a long way down into those beautifully trimmed seats, but once you are in there you'll soon find it was well worth the effort.

This saloon's cabin is a wonderfully relaxing place, from the full-wood dashboard to the beautifully shaped leather trim.

Noise, vibration and harshness are well suppressed, resulting in a relaxing atmosphere as the topline Jaguar whisks you across vast expanses of open road, or comforts you during endless commuting trips.

Take a punt and try something that's not German in the upper-luxury market - there's a good chance you will fall in love with one of these elegant British machines.
