LEXUS GS300 review in detail:

Styling of the latest GS Lexus generally works very well. The bonnet has some interesting sculpting and there's a large, black radiator grille. The roof has a domed shape that lets it provide decent headroom in the rear and the window-line is high-set.

Inside, there are elegant curves in all directions and these intersect to provide an interesting combination of classic and modern shapes. The Lexus GS's cabin provides good comfort for four adults, and there's a small seat in the rear-centre for occasional use so it could almost be called a five-seater. Luxury touches include standard dual-zone automatic climate control, a power tilt and telescoping steering wheel, 10-way power front seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and an in-dash CD changer.

All four of the regular seats have a decent amount of space around them and support the body well. Impressive amounts of leg- and shoulder room easily accommodate the long-limbed and broad-shouldered.

Lexus is renowned for its low noise and high refinement and the GS has the sort of near silence that its buyers demand.

This time around power comes from a V8 engine if desired, though there's still a six-cylinder in the range. The 2006 Lexus GS 300 sparkles on the open road. Its silent cabin, devoid of any noise, harshness or vibration, is a portrait of tranquility. During modest cornering, the chassis is solid and the multilink suspension keeps the tires pressed tight to the ground at all times. Compared to the faster GS 430, the V6 car is quicker on its feet and more poised. It doesn't pull as hard as the V8, naturally, but unless you drive them back-to-back, you might not care.
