MERCEDES-BENZ CL500 review in detail:

The Mercedes-Benz CL-Class is a large luxury coupe, and virtually all-new for the 2007 season.

The new coupe comes with a nice combination of elegance and sporting aggression and takes the current Mercedes styling theme further than ever before. Particularly impressive is the domed roof, a styling feature that necessitates a large car if it's to avoid cramping the interior.

The new Mercedes CL-Class was immediately joined by the highest-performance variant, the CL 63 AMG, a stunning machine with a 6.2-litre V12 engine that gives it Ferrari-like acceleration that sees it going from rest to 100km/h in well under five seconds.

Not that there's anything wrong with the topline Mercedes model; the CL 500 features 26% more power than the model it supersedes.

The Mercedes CL-Class is a little out of place in speed-restricted Australia, being at its best on the motorways of Europe. However, at least we can experience the astonishingly good chassis electronics that provide stability and safety in large amounts.

Seating is good for four adults, though the rear is quite cramped for such a large car. Access to the back seat is better than average for a two-door car, but obviously there are still compromises.
