NISSAN MURANO review in detail:

This vehicle is a crossover and sits about halfway between a passenger car and an off-roader.

There's a huge amount of cabin space with stretch-out legroom for five adult passengers, as well as decent elbow and shoulder room in all seats.

The dramatic rear shape robs the boot of a lot of height except in the area immediately behind the back seat.

Best to check all this out for yourself if you regularly carry bulky items.

Power comes from a 3.5-litre V6 engine that's a close relation to the one used in the Nissan Maxima. In fact, it can even claim to share a fair bit with the Nissan 350Z sports car.

This engine is mated to a continuously variable transmission, with six preset ratios by way of a Tiptronic-type shift lever.

For a vehicle with a highish centre of gravity the handling is good, and the Murano can be whisked around corners at reasonable speeds.

Crosswinds can cause a fair bit of buffeting though.

In its early days the radical styling didn't appeal to many Australian buyers, though there are signs people are beginning to accept the shape and sales are now picking up.
