PORSCHE BOXSTER review in detail:

Porsche has managed to keep the Boxster down to a pretty affordable level for what it is, due to the fact the Boxster uses quite a few out-of-sight components it shares with the 911.

The engine is water-cooled but manages to sound sporting in a manner not altogether different from the old air-cooled Porsches.

Some may find the 2.7-litre unit not much more than adequate, but there's plenty of power and torque in the 3.4-litre engine.

Cooling ducts ahead of the rear wheels not only look after the radiator and intakes, but make a distinctive styling statement that sets the Boxster apart from the 911.

The Boxster uses a mid-mounted engine to give the best possible on-road balance, so handling is sharp and enjoyable to control, with road grip that seems to be interminable.

The Boxster is shorter than the 911 so is purely a two-seater.

It has a neat folding roof, but it's not fully automatic and has a hand-operated latch.

Opening is a power operation after that has been operated.

While most cars insist on being stationary before the top will work, in the Boxster it can be raised or lowered at speeds up to 50km/h.
