SSANGYONG KYRON review in detail:

In the South Korean manner, Kyron is a true 4WD, meaning it comes with a ladder-frame chassis and a two-speed transfer case.

There's the choice of two high, four high and four low ranges, though no neutral position is offered.

Kyron's look is distinctive and not to all tastes, but there are plenty of buyers who don't want to be like everyone else and they will appreciate the designers' different direction in styling.

There's good interior space for four adults and a fifth can be carried without an unpleasant squeeze.

Power currently comes from a 2.

0-litre, common-rail, turbo-diesel engine.

It has the usual rattle if you're standing outside the car and listening to it idling, but from the inside it's pretty peaceful.

Noise levels from the engine are about average when accelerating but the SsangYong becomes very quiet when cruising.

Indeed, at a steady 100km/h this is one of the quietest vehicles of all.

That's clever design because a lot of cars spend a great deal of their open road time at about that speed.

Other engines, including a 3.

2-litre petrol engine, are known to be in the pipeline.
