VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE review in detail:

Though still undeniably fun and cute, the 2007 Volkswagen New Beetle isn't so new anymore. Other competing two-door hatchbacks and convertibles offer more features and more power, and are more fun to drive.

Perhaps a little surprisingly, the 2007 Volkswagen New Beetle is still a pretty decent car, especially considering that it's never received a full redesign.

Compared to other competing models, all of which are newer in design, the new VW Beetle has no real advantage other than its nostalgic connection. Other two-door coupes or hatchbacks, such as the Honda Civic or even VW's new Golf, provide better utility, driving dynamics and features.

The driving position is a strange one; anyone taller than average height needs the driving seat set back to where you are actually closer to the back windscreen than the front.

The new Beetle has seating for four only, because the rear is quite cramped.

Regard the New Beetle as a smart little coupe rather than a three-door hatch and it all makes sense, but this is no family hatch despite its substantial exterior dimensions.

Sales slowed for a while, but Volkswagen is fighting back valiantly with the introduction of various additional models, including some special editions. This is holding sales relatively high for what is, after all, a fashion statement, and we all know that fashions never last.
